Privacy Policy

Overview
Screen Annotations does not collect any personal data. The app is designed to run entirely on your device. There are no user accounts, no login, no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting.
Permissions
The app requests the following macOS permissions to function:
- Screen Recording — Used to capture screenshots that are displayed to you or passed to a local AI assistant via a localhost MCP server. Screenshots exist only in memory and are never uploaded or transmitted off your device.
- Accessibility — Used to power the cursor highlight, spotlight, and keystroke display features. Keystroke data is shown on screen for a few seconds and then discarded. It is never logged, saved, or transmitted.
Data Storage
- User preferences are stored locally on your device using macOS UserDefaults.
- Drawing documents are saved to disk only when you explicitly choose to save them via the system file picker.
- Screenshots, keystrokes, and mouse position data are held in memory temporarily and never written to disk or transmitted.
Local HTTP Server
Screen Annotations runs a local HTTP server bound exclusively to 127.0.0.1 (localhost). This server is used for MCP integration with AI assistants running on the same machine. It does not accept connections from other devices and does not expose any data to the network.
Third-Party Services
Screen Annotations does not integrate with any third-party services. No data is shared with or sent to any third party. No data leaves your device under any circumstances.
Children's Privacy
Screen Annotations does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no data is collected, no special provisions for children's data are necessary.
