Privacy Policy

Overview

Screen Annotations does not collect any personal data. This policy covers the Screen Annotations apps for Mac and iPad. There are no user accounts, no login, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, and no crash reporting. Lumary Labs never receives your drawings, boards, or screenshots.

Permissions

On Mac, the app asks for one permission:

  • Screen Recording — Used when you capture a screenshot, and when you ask a local AI assistant to look at your screen through the MCP server. Captures you take are saved to the folder you choose; screenshots taken for an AI assistant are handed only to that assistant on your Mac.

The Mac app does not request Accessibility or Input Monitoring access. The keystroke display shows keys you press while Screen Annotations is active for a few seconds, and never logs, saves, or transmits them.

On iPad, the app does not ask for any permissions. Photos and files are added through the system photo and document pickers, which only give the app the items you choose.

Data Storage

  • Preferences are stored on your device.
  • Whiteboards, including their scenes and snapshot history, are saved on your device, and in your own iCloud if you use iCloud sync (see below).
  • Documents and exports are saved where you choose with the system file picker.
  • Screenshots you capture on Mac are saved to the folder you choose, and can be cleaned up automatically in Settings.
  • Keystrokes and pointer positions used by the presentation tools are held in memory only and are never written to disk or transmitted.

iCloud Sync

If you use Screen Annotations on more than one device with the same Apple Account, your whiteboards can sync between them through iCloud. Sync is on by default and can be turned off at any time in the app's Settings.

  • Boards are stored in your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit. They are handled by Apple under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy policy.
  • Lumary Labs cannot see, access, or recover data in your private iCloud database.
  • Deleting a board in the app deletes it from iCloud as well. Synced boards count toward your iCloud storage.
  • Without an iCloud account, or with sync turned off, everything stays on your device.

Network Connections

  • iCloud — used only for iCloud sync, as described above.
  • Link cards — when you add a link card, the app fetches that page's title and preview image directly from the website you linked.
  • Local MCP server (Mac only) — Screen Annotations runs a local HTTP server bound exclusively to 127.0.0.1 (localhost) for AI assistants running on the same Mac. It does not accept connections from other devices.

Third-Party Services

Screen Annotations contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking code. Apart from iCloud sync and link cards you add, no data leaves your device. AI assistants you connect through MCP are separate apps with their own privacy policies.

Children's Privacy

Screen Annotations does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no data is collected, no special provisions for children's data are necessary.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page and reflected in an updated date at the top of this document.
