Screen Annotations 1.7.0 adds a complete screenshot workflow and a full-app performance overhaul. Capture any region, window, or screen from the menu bar or a global hotkey; captures land in a quick-access tray and open in a dedicated annotation editor with padded backgrounds. Under the hood, a broad performance pass makes drawing, autosave, AI drawing, and the presentation overlays dramatically faster and lighter.

• Capture Area with a crosshair and live size label, Capture Window with hover highlight and click-to-shoot, plus Fullscreen and Previous Area
• Global hotkeys for all four, unassigned by default, with conflict warnings for combinations the system already owns
• Saved automatically — every capture is written to your chosen folder (Desktop with a one-time grant, or Pictures)

Performance Overhaul

A broad performance pass touched nearly every subsystem.

• Faster drawing — the canvas now redraws only what moved, with new path, text, and image caches behind it
• Smoother autosave — board saves no longer read from disk or block the main thread, and board files are roughly half the size
• Snappier AI drawing — the MCP server moved off the main thread, batch drawings land as a single undo step, and a new lightweight ping route speeds up client connections
• Lighter overlays — cursor highlight, spotlight, and keystroke display are now event-driven and use dramatically less energy

Compatibility Note

• Boards and documents saved by 1.7.0 use a new compact format and require 1.7.0 or later to open. Existing files upgrade automatically the next time they are saved.
